Jeep 4.0 alternator is not charging?

Background: 86 Jeep CJ, fell into a 93 4.0. Hesco wiring. high-power alternator installed Fused 50 amp line between alt. and battery. After installation, everything went for 2 years – no problems (in charge properly). Install a winch. No-brainer wiring. No problems. Winch used. All of a sudden I blow the fuse 50 amps. winch Logout has no effect. Bypass fuse (direct line) causes too much resistance (wire gets hot – duh). Do not know alternators with internal regulators. Is this the question? It is a red top Optima battery. Can not far jeep or night since the battery does not charge. Suggestions ?……..

Take the alternator to a parts store and have it tested.
